It's Not About Pretty

Wave check from my villa’s balcony in Sayulita, Mexico this week. Some weeks life is tough. Just rolled in from Sayulita, Mexico last night. Had a bitchin’ time and I have tons of cool stuff to post & share – from outfit posts, to beach & jungle locations to skateparks and rad boutiques. I tried to cover it all, which is hard when you are downing margaritas and eating amazing food all day, but hey, I somehow “managed”! In case you aren’t following on instagram (or insta-rad as we like to refer to it here) yet – here is a taste of what’s to come…  

I don’t usually drone on and on about electronics of any sort – but this is the exception. These super clean white with gold headphones by Frends are making me fall in love with listening to music all over again. Co-founder of Frends (based in Encinitas, CA), Keir Dillion was a pro snowboarder so he knows a thing or two about function and what’s cool. Can you tell? The “Layla” looks amazing and sounds even better. Noise cancelling to keep the crying kids out of my head when flying, a built in mic which means when I am using Skype on my ipad when traveling, no one else hears the other side of my call. And they fold up and ft into a sleek pouch. And did I mention they look pretty bitchin’ on? Yeah that.  

I was in Jacks Surf Shop the other day and this sock line, Stance , caught my eye. I don’t usually stop in my tracks and look at socks – especially when buying surf stuff,  but this time was different. The socks were damn cool – pattens, fades, fringe, stuff that was so fun I was mentally planning my outfits around the socks I was buying. I picked myself up a couple  pairs and now I am on a little mission to find more. Can you really blame me?  

As most of you know, I love Isabel Marant in almost every shape/form. And I couldn’t be happier that we just got our own Isabel store here in LA.      BUT… This whole Isabel Marant x Heritage skateboard thing disturb me. It’s almost like they took an old school board design and stuck a bunch of white stickers with words in them on it w/no thought on how it would look. I feel like it could have been a cool idea, but graphically it doesn’t thrill me. And it’s obviously meant to just be put in a corner of your house to “look at” because the shape isn’t the easiest for non-skaters to ride. Oh, and did I mention it’s $450??  I can’t stop laughing about that part.    I feel about this like I did about the Chanel surfboard. Not stoked.  

A shot from one of my favorite places to shop in the entire world – Pacha Mama in Sayulita, Mexico. I bought so much great jewelry there one visit that I had to wear it all home through customs. Seriously. That’s how amazing the place is.

Rad 12 year old skate phenom, Poppy Starr Olsen in a Ksubi x Target commercial. I’m digging Poppy’s pink hair and the ollie she does at end of video.  If you haven’t checked out Poppy’s site or don’t know about her yet (but I do have to ask – where have you been??)  the girl is AWESOME. She just won the Australian Bowl Riding Championships last week, is as nice as can be, and she is a talented artist and has her own jewelry line (more on that in a later post!). The GIRL Rules!  

So simple yet so badass. Sometimes less is MORE. Words to live by. #FashionShit

Seems like Selena Gomez is shedding her good girl image for girl gone bad. And I must say it looks pretty good on her. New images from this months Nylon Magazine have her looking less teeny bopper and more 20 something. Maybe that new movie by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers   that she’s in isn’t a bad thing for her image after all? And be warned, this movie is not what you think – it’s a cross between Natural Born Killers and well um, Spring Break. If you liked the movie Savages, this movie may be for you – a hard ass mix of sexy x violence. I’m thinking I may have to brave it.
