It's Not About Pretty

  Anytime I get to style beautiful pro surfer and shark attack surivor, Bethany Hamilton, it’s an awesome day! This time was for her red carpet appearance for her new movie UNSTOPPABLE that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.  She just gave birth to her second son, Wesley, five weeks before, and she looked glowing and great. Bethany and her outfit got a lot of love from the media site JUST JARED, so I thought I’d share what they posted about her. UNSTOPPABLE a great movie, (3 years in the making)  so mark your calendars when it’s released in a theater near you – you won’t want to miss it. The film is directed by well know surf cinematographer, Aaron Lieber. I also enjoy incorporating the client’s colors into the wardrobe selects, for the ultimate tie-ins photographically.

Photos by Christin Rose  Lifetime #Fempire Moments     When LIFETIME TV   asked me to style a series of #Fempire moments with my brand Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word to highlight female empowerment, I was beyond stoked. To see Venice Skatepark filled with only girls skating from dawn to dusk is not something you ever see – thanks to Lifetime TV this happened. The first #fempire spot rolled out this weekend on Lifetime TV – maybe you caught it? If not, we have it here. This spot features Japanese ripper Sky Brown – at just 8 years old she is taking the skating world by storm and has some other big dreams as well! Also featured in the shots above are Hunter Long, Minna Stess, Jordyn Barratt, Quinne Daniels, Vianez Morales & Emma Houle. Such a rad day filming with these girls and the Lifetime TV Crew. Photos Ian Logan I finally had some time off from styling shoots and took a week long break over the holiday to skateboard through the south.  Got to experience some great locations, have a lot of fun, and remembered that it’s damn cold skating through intersections at 7 AM when you have wind chill going on.  (You tend to forget that living in California most of the year). Now it’s back to work and working on estimates, pulling wardrobe for upcoming shoots and making each shoot a success.   I loved getting a chance to write another article for the  espnW website . This time I covered Christin Rose’s new photo project She Plays, We Win, that showcases girls ages 7-15 doing the sports they love. You can see all the girls photos and their inspiring quotes over at espnW . These girls skateboard, surf, do rodeo and even drive race cars. Pretty cool subject for me to get to cover!

  Had a blast working on the new spring line for Orly Nails. It’s called MELROSE,  so working with fun jewelry from Tarina Tarantino and adding bright pops of color in wardrobe, and accessories made for a awesome day. I like mixing high/low when I style to get the right look – and when you are able to mix patterns and colors that’s even more fun and challenging.   Thanks to the great team at Orly for having me on this one!

I’m beyond excited that I was hired to write an article for espnW . The  icing on the cake was I got to write about women in skateboarding. More specifically a rad pro skater named Katherine Folsom who is also a mom and a ballet teacher. I’m not going to tell you her whole story, but it’s pretty different and interesting. More behind the scenes video, ads and packaging shots coming soon. This was super high energy and fun shoot to style. Stoked to have been on this cool campaign.

    I styled a shoot with photographer Art Brewer this past week for Rancho Mission Viejo.  Lots of cool lifestyle images will showing up everywhere very soon. This is the first image that was just released. The goal as the stylist was to dress the family in upscale apparel that had an easy, yet casual elegance to it,  yet did not take away or compete with the visuals of the property. I used a neutral palette with a bit of subtle pattern and texture and chose brands like Tory Burch, Tommy Bahama,  Joie, Alice & Olivia, Calypso, and even a couple pieces from Madewell and J.Crew. The kids stayed in more California lifestyle brands like Quiksilver,  Volcom, and even some nice pieces I found at Target.  Jewelry was kept minimal, nice upscale watch for him, gold jewelry that was simple but nice, for her. I have done lifestyle styling for over 20 years and I really enjoy delving into shoots like this as I love fashion,  and on sports shoots that doesn’t always come into p...

  A couple of new commercials I styled with Wrangler featuring Drew Brees and his wonderful family. We shot these out in New Orleans and couldn’t have had a better time. I love getting to style Drew in regular clothes instead of just in football or workout gear, and it was fun to style his entire family for the 3rd year in a row, the kids just keep being more and more fun on set – love that!

Nice when you are blasting full steam ahead to see that other women around you are doing the same, it’s motivating to say the least!  Here’s to all the women featured in the issue. It was a pleasure getting to meet you at the magazine launch party this past week.

Always fun working with talent who know their craft- Krza is a well known DJ here in Los Angeles so listening to her spin all day was an added bonus on set. Behind the Scenes photos by me via my iphone shots were taken in Montrose, Telluride and surrounding areas Just got back from styling an awesome, week long shoot in Telluride, Colorado. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew. Got to work with wonderful photographer Tony Demin again, my good friend & make-up artist Renee Parenteau ,  and some rad new clients and talent who helped make the week so great.  We got to shoot in locations that were just stunning, and had a blast in our off time eating at great restaurants like THERE,  The New Sheridan, & Telluride Bistro,  and I (of course) did some major damage, shopping at my new favorite store. located in Telluride, TWO SKIRTS. I’m already missing the weather, the location, the locals, and the crew!

  Congrats to Jason Day on another win this weekend!  Proud to have been working with Jason on the  Taylormade Golf shoots (including the video above) all these years.    

Client Asics / Photographer Justin Coit / Styling me / H&M Donna Gast Very proud to have styled this new Accelerate Hope Campaign For Asics. The campaign donates a portion of its proceeds from the #AccelerateHope shoes and apparel to help fight pediatric, breast, and prostate cancer. All the adults & children we worked with on the shoot day have fought cancer, or in the case of one woman, had a unique story to be told about preventative measures.
