Styling For Lifetime TV #Fempire Moments

Image
Photos by Christin Rose  Lifetime #Fempire Moments     When LIFETIME TV   asked me to style a series of #Fempire moments with my brand Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word to highlight female empowerment, I was beyond stoked. To see Venice Skatepark filled with only girls skating from dawn to dusk is not something you ever see – thanks to Lifetime TV this happened. The first #fempire spot rolled out this weekend on Lifetime TV – maybe you caught it? If not, we have it here. This spot features Japanese ripper Sky Brown – at just 8 years old she is taking the skating world by storm and has some other big dreams as well! Also featured in the shots above are Hunter Long, Minna Stess, Jordyn Barratt, Quinne Daniels, Vianez Morales & Emma Houle. Such a rad day filming with these girls and the Lifetime TV Crew. Skateboarding Through The South

Image
Photos Ian Logan I finally had some time off from styling shoots and took a week long break over the holiday to skateboard through the south.  Got to experience some great locations, have a lot of fun, and remembered that it’s damn cold skating through intersections at 7 AM when you have wind chill going on.  (You tend to forget that living in California most of the year). Now it’s back to work and working on estimates, pulling wardrobe for upcoming shoots and making each shoot a success. Now it’s back to work, cranking out estimates, pulling wardrobe for upcoming shoots and making each shoot day with my clients a success. Happy New Year and here’s to a great 2017! Save

NYX Cosmetics Snapchat Takeover.

Image
The photo I created for my social media channels to announce the NYX Snapchat takeover NYX Cosmetics announcement on their Twitter page for the Snapchat takeover A little teaser of what was to come… I did a Snapchat takeover awhile back for large beauty based group called BeautyCon,  it went so well & I had such a great time doing it, I knew I wanted to do more. So I reached out to NYX Cosmetics (a young and hip brand of cosmetics under the Loreal  umbrella)  to see if they’d be interested in having me take over their social media at the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, which is THE biggest surf/skate summer party of the year. The women’s skateboarding event within the US Open is called the Vans Park Series, and it is a very important qualifier for the Pro and AM skaters that want to make the championships in Sweden. Only 10 girls will qualify out of a field of 36+  so nerves run high. After getting the green light from NYX via email, we set up a m...

Sports Stylist Cindy Whitehead Inducted Into Skateboard Hall of Fame

Image
Cindy in 1980 at Marina Del Rey Skatepark Local coverage about Cindy’s Induction to Skateboarding hall of Fame Photo of Cindy by Israel Santana                              Photo via video from Joan Jett     Some of my days are about styling, and some involve skateboarding. I’m proud to announce that on May 13, 2016 I was inducted into the  Skateboarding Hall of Fame. The awards ceremony  was held  at the City National Grove in Anaheim, California, and I was extremely honored to have legendary rocker Joan Jett  agree to do my introduction, which encompassed her views and mine, on female empowerment.     OG Pro skateboarder David Hackett and Nor Cal skater and well known photographer Bryce Kanights, also gave intro’s on my past & present skate history. My acceptance  speech included a message for future generations of girls out there.   Huge thanks to Joan Jett, Kenny Laguna, Blackheart Records, and Greg Oliver for Joan’s awesome video...

Women Who Inspire.

Image
Photo: Shane O’Donnell Honored to be in South Bay Magazine’s “The Women’s Issue” this month. Got to talk about Kimberly Robinson, a rad woman who inspires me daily. Nice when you are blasting full steam ahead to see that other women around you are doing the same, it’s motivating to say the least!  Here’s to all the women featured in the issue. It was a pleasure getting to meet you at the magazine launch party this past week.

The Bates Motel

Image
Photos: Ian Logan I have been mesmerized by this art instillation that Vincent Lamouroux did here in Los Angeles. He took the old Sunset Motel (also known as The Bates Motel), used an Eco-friendly whitewash to coat the entire structure, billboards, signs, and palm trees around it, taking a seedy, run down hotel and making it into something beautiful. The Eco-friendly paint will fade away naturally and eventually the motel will be razed to make way for new development, but until then we get to enjoy it’s beauty and simplicity. It just seemed like a perfect spot for some skate shots – especially since it was a great excuse to skate down Sunset Blvd at 6 AM without much traffic. Yeah, that kind of made my day.

Memorial Day Skate Session

Image
Photo: Ian Logan I hope you had a wonderful three day weekend!  It’s really rare &  nice to have the streets here in Los Angeles be with out traffic, even in the early morning hours, so I took advantage of it and  had a little skate session at 7 AM through Beverly Hills. The streets were  so smooth and I had them all to myself. Love that.  Of course I had to wear some  red, white & blue today to honor those who have served our country. #ThankYou

Orly "Adrenaline Rush" Commercial

Image
Spent the day styling for Orly Cosmetics to launch their new “Adrenaline Rush” nail polish collection for summer 2015. Love that they asked me to bring my “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word” skateboard and apparel line and that the creative director decided they were perfect to work in throughout the commercial! Always a perfect day when I get to merge my love of fashion styling with skateboarding.

Dusters X GN4LW Skate ad

Image
Photo: Ian Logan / Hair & make up: Donna Gast / Stylist: Cindy Whitehead / Creative Director: Nano Nobrega New ad I styled for skateboard company Dusters California and my Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word brand. Skater is Cassie Oseguera age 18 from Northern California and this was shot at a core skate location called Butlers Pool in Orange County. We went for a 1970’s skate vibe for clothing – one of my favorite periods to style!

Behind The Scenes With Singer Annie Bosko

Image
Behind the scenes shot with singer Annie Bosko taken at Dwindle Distribution Some days I get to be in front of the camera rather than behind it, where I normally do my thing styling the talent. This was one of those times. So honored to be featured in a short upcoming video promoting Nashville singer/songwriter Annie Bosko’s new single “Angel With a Crooked Halo” .  Annie literally flew in from Nashville, got off the plane at LAX and came straight to me to film this short video segment. Her song which launched on Sirius Radio and her video, which has been welcomed with open arms (to say the least) on CMT, features clips of girls who live their life doing rad things,  and her song is about empowering women out there to do the same. We spent part of an afternoon filming at Dwindle Distribution Skateboard Company discussing how I feel that skateboarding has empowered me in my life and what it’s like to help empower the younger girls skating today. Annie then played...

BTS Girls Skate Video Shoot.

Image
Bedroom BEFORE Bedroom AFTER Photos Ian Logan & Cindy Here’s a few behind the scenes photos from the Dusters California x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word skateboard video shoot I was working on this past weekend. I had a blast styling this bedroom at the house to create a teenage girls room, complete with references to some rad 70’s female rock & roll icons. Keeping with that 70’s theme, the girls wore old school Vans, striped tube socks, and denim cut off shorts to skate in. I love being involved in all the visual aspects of a shoot, and because of my background in skateboarding, this shoot was one that allowed me to do everything from finding the location (a 70’s style backyard with an empty pool)  to styling room sets and wardrobe, bringing in a tech adviser to help the girls pick lines to skate that worked well on video, to casting the talent. Beverly & Cassie are both awesome skaters who pulled off some amazing moves in completely new terrain ...

Women's Skateboarding

Image
Photo: Ian Logan Photography Even when I’m not on a shoot doing styling, I’m am usually at an event that has to do with either sports or fashion  in some  way shape or form. Last weekend it was the Exposure Skate event which drew girls in from all over the world to compete for $20,00 in prize money. My action sports/lifestyle brand, Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word was there as a sponsor and I was on hand all day to see just how far women’s skateboarding has progressed form back when I was a pro skater. Glad to say it has grown leaps and bounds – over 50 girls of all ages competed on Saturday and a free skate clinic that was held in the morning for beginning skaters, drew over 60 participants. Simply amazing to be part of this inspiring event!

The Women Who Came Before Us.

Image
Many thanks to South Bay Magazine for bringing me in to write this first person piece about why women in the South Bay rock. I couldn’t think of a more fun subject than women in sports to get to write about! Hope you enjoy the read. xx
