Wanderlust

Image
image from my posts on instagram Southern California has been so warm these past two weeks that it feels like summer. It’s been great for my clients who come in from the East Coast – they couldn’t be happier to get out of the rain, snow, and freezing temps. The sunny, warm weather here at the beach has put me in a Summer state of mind. I’m loving anything white right now, and I’m also feeling a bit of wanderlust happening again so this new book “Gypset Travel” is my perfect weekend reading material!

Vans x Fashion

Nylon Magazine  / Photos: Valerie Phillips Love the way Vans is worked in via shoes and tee’s in this recent spread in Nylon Magazine. Skater influence rules again.

Bringing It Back

Image
Images via Teen Vogue / photos: Michael Hauptman Teen Vogue is killing it with this piece on the new Vans sneakers – featuring print patterns reissued from the 70, 80’s and 90’s. Can’t even tell you how classic the checkerboard print is to me from my skate days… P.S. I love that Teen Vogue fashion editor Gloria Baume’s daughter, Anita, is a skater! I think we need to hook her up with GRO (Girl Riders Organization) so she can have some rad skate adventures in NYC and meet other cool girls who skate.   I’m really seriously stoked to see so many girl out there skating nowadays. xx

Shoe Voyeur

One of my favorite things at the Vans Pool Party besides watching the guys rip it up, is to take photos of everyone’s Van’s shoes. Yes I am a voyeur, but you already knew that.

Hanging at The Vans Pool Party

Image
Photos by: Ian Logan , Cindy Whitehead and “winners shots” by Ray Zimmerman An absolutely amazing day spent with old friends at the Vans Pool Party!  Nothing like seeing the boys you skated with back in the day battle it out in the masters division, kicking more ass than ever.  I’m thinking 40-50 is the new 20, because these guys were making it look easy.  In the masters, it was Chris Miller in 1st, Steve Caballaero in 2nd and Christian Hosoi in 3rd. The pro division rocked as well with Bucky Lasek coming in first, Pedro Barros 2nd and Rune Glifberg in 3rd. Another great thing about this skate event is that it brings all of us together again – getting to hang with my fellow female pro skaters from the early days,  watching Steve Van Doren make hot dogs on the grill, getting silly in front of the camera, teasing our pro boys, and just having a blast. That’s what skateboarding has always been about and this event always has that feeling from start to fini...

Vans Girls Combi Pool Classic

Image
all images shot with my iPhone 4s Last night was one of those nights in skateboarding that we girls live for.  A $12,000 total purse and an entire day and evening devoted to women’s skateboarding – which at times in the past 30+ years has been tough to come by.  It was a total rager &  the girls were throwing down HARD, not one of them was holding back. Back to back tricks on every wall, and airs so high that at times my camera only caught the bottom of the board. It was a privilege to watch them ride. This event just keeps getting better and better each year which just proves to me that women’s’ skateboarding is on the rise again.  And I am happy to be here to see it. With an under 14 division we were able to see the future of skateboarding charging hard and blowing minds. Little Poppy Starr Olsen came all the way from Australia to compete and I have to say, I was stoked to finally see her skate in person. The masters division showed that the girls are stil...

Retro Style

Image
Some of my behind the scenes instagram’s  from the 70’s retro skate shoot I styled. These are those brand spanking new Vans shoes that I spent hours & hours distressing – more pics  here .  Pretty stoked with how this all came out. But seriously, what’s not to love when you get to spend the day shooting 70’s skate stuff?  #DreamJob

F**CK Carmageddon

Image
Photos Ian Logan OK. I had to do it. Skateboarding down the closed 405 FWY. Yes it was fun, yes it was scary (helicopters were flying overhead, & police had the place on lock down) yes it took us hours to find a spot and do it quickly. And I was very safe – look at the first photo – I totally look to my left so I can merge with traffic! And YES, I am insane. Deal with it.      P.S. Do you love my new pink Vans?  Thought so.
