I’m beyond excited that I was hired to write an article for espnW . The  icing on the cake was I got to write about women in skateboarding. More specifically a rad pro skater named Katherine Folsom who is also a mom and a ballet teacher. I’m not going to tell you her whole story, but it’s pretty different and interesting.   Honored to be included in the limited edition book “XLV Stories of the Puma Suede” (2,000 total) produced by Puma and Acclaim Magazine. Forty five people from music, art, dance and sport have their personal stories and history wearing the suede detailed in the book, which  commemorates the Suede’s 45th anniversary. Another skater represented is Bucky Lasek – excited to read his story. As some of you may know Puma was my shoe sponsor for skateboarding back in the day and I still wear their shoes now & love them! Sometimes it’s called work, but it’s really pleasure.  Spent Thursday at Agenda Trade show scoping out new clothing lines for my editorial shoots and connecting with companies that I style advertising shoots for. Running into friends while there was an added bonus. Saw some great instillation’s, awesome new clothing lines and bitchin’ hard goods. Things are looking good in the action sports industry!

images via espn She may have not have won the ESPY for “best female athlete” tonight, although she did win for “best female college athlete”, but I think Brittney Griner is the top pick in any category. She’s 6’8, can dunk like nobody’s business, was the #1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft, she’s been skateboarding since she was a kid, she got tongue tied meeting Tony Hawk for the first time and had a skate session recently with Erik Kosten in Los Angeles. Her team, the Phoenix Mercury even wrote it into her contract that she can continue to skate (albeit in a controlled environment – no bombing hills), which in major league sports is a huge deal. She also has it written into her Nike contract that she can choose to wear the men’s line of apparel, which she says she feels more comfortable in.  The girl has clout and can definitely stick to her guns on who she wants to be and not let sponsors push her into something she is no...

Laura Thornhill making LA her own. Much love + respect for this girl. We are both headed to the Smithsonian Museum and Innoskate tomorrow and all I can say is watch out DC, because here we come!

I have to admit I now have them in black too. Couldn’t resist. Pure RADNESS. I can’t wait to skate the hell out of them on National Go Skateboarding Day on June 21. So remember to get out and SKATE!

One of my favorite things at the Vans Pool Party besides watching the guys rip it up, is to take photos of everyone’s Van’s shoes. Yes I am a voyeur, but you already knew that.  

  Today is the day. The best skate party of the year. Hanging with old skater friends watching the boys compete all day and into the night. It’s the ultimate party for the kids who didn’t really show up at school because we were too busy skateboarding and seeing the world. It’s for the kids who were “different” back in the 60’s and 70’s but were 100% OK with that. It’s for the kids who are now rock stars and legends, artists and skaters, moms and dads, husbands and wives, and always good friends. We are all grown up now, but these are our families still. We’d do anything for these people – there is a bond that can not be broken. It’s like siblings who may fight but are together through thick and then. We take care of our own. We love, cherish, and respect our history and those in it...

Photos: Ian Logan Nili Lotan vest, F21 tee, Zara Jeans, Puma Sky Wedges A really sweet package from Puma arrived last week – did you know they used to be one of my main sponsors when I was a pro skater?  Yep, that’s how long I have been wearing Pumas and I LOVE them! These rad Sky Wedges were in the package along with some badass low top skate shoes (more on those later) and I have to say I am pretty stoked on them.  Fashion x Sport is totally my thing and these are PERFECTION!  

As most of you know, I love Isabel Marant in almost every shape/form. And I couldn’t be happier that we just got our own Isabel store here in LA.      BUT… This whole Isabel Marant x Heritage skateboard thing disturb me. It’s almost like they took an old school board design and stuck a bunch of white stickers with words in them on it w/no thought on how it would look. I feel like it could have been a cool idea, but graphically it doesn’t thrill me. And it’s obviously meant to just be put in a corner of your house to “look at” because the shape isn’t the easiest for non-skaters to ride. Oh, and did I mention it’s $450??  I can’t stop laughing about that part.    I feel about this like I did about the Chanel surfboard. Not stoked.
