It's Not About Pretty

Skater is Cassie Oseguera age 18 from Northern California and this was shot at a core skate location called Butlers Pool in Orange County. We went for a 1970’s skate vibe for clothing – one of my favorite periods to style!        

So excited to share this new Old Navy Active commercial I styled – it’s for their spring collection and features everything from parkour, & kickboxing, to  ballet & BMX. We had an awesome crew and traveled all around Los Angeles shooting adults and kids who are all super talented in their sport.  It was an absolutely perfect spot for me to get to be involved in and I’m really stoked about how the commercial turned out!

  I’m very honored to be one of singer/songwriter Annie Bosko’s “Angel With a Crooked Halo” girls! This song has become the anthem for so many girls out there,  & I’m super proud to be a part of it! “Annie Bosko features her next angel, Cindy Whitehead, founder of Girl Is Not A 4 Letter Word. Cindy is the quintessential Angel With A Crooked Halo! She’s a bad ass, started professionally skateboarding when she was 16 years old, is the ONLY person to have ever skateboarded down the 405 freeway in LA and she has a big heart; giving back to females in action sports.”  

Behind the scenes shot with singer Annie Bosko taken at Dwindle Distribution Some days I get to be in front of the camera rather than behind it, where I normally do my thing styling the talent. This was one of those times. So honored to be featured in a short upcoming video promoting Nashville singer/songwriter Annie Bosko’s new single “Angel With a Crooked Halo” .  Annie literally flew in from Nashville, got off the plane at LAX and came straight to me to film this short video segment. Her song which launched on Sirius Radio and her video, which has been welcomed with open arms (to say the least) on CMT, features clips of girls who live their life doing rad things,  and her song is about empowering women out there to do the same. We spent part of an afternoon filming at Dwindle Distribution Skateboard Company discussing how I feel that skateboarding has empowered me in my life and what it’s like to help empower the younger girls skating today. image from my posts on instagram Southern California has been so warm these past two weeks that it feels like summer. It’s been great for my clients who come in from the East Coast – they couldn’t be happier to get out of the rain, snow, and freezing temps. The sunny, warm weather here at the beach has put me in a Summer state of mind. I’m loving anything white right now, and I’m also feeling a bit of wanderlust happening again so this new book “Gypset Travel” is my perfect weekend reading material!  

  I was really excited to to style this girls skate video for Dusters California x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word , my collab skateboard that gives a portion of its proceeds to Poseiden Organization a 501c3 non profit that helps and encourages girls all over the world to get involved in action sports. It was really a blast to make the bedroom look like it was a teenagers room, complete with female rock & roll posters, a messy floor strewn with clothes, shoes, skateboards, and a turntable  playing Joan Jett on it. The girls were dressed in denim shorts, 70’s style tube socks, worn in Vans sneakers  and we kept their hair long and flowing in true 70’s style It was also a perfect opportunity to get in a subliminal message to the action sports industry that female athletes don’t want to be shown as the “girl in the neon bikini” in videos and ads – they want to be shown as the powerful, talented girls that they are.
